There are plenty of ways to get involved with the Newman Catholic Students’ Society, from volunteering to cook a Saturday Night Supper, to running for an executive position, to simply attending one of our events and activities. We welcome all guests and new students, regardless of their religious background. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions about getting more involved with the Society.
Become A Member
For the low price of $2, you can join the Newman Catholic Students’ Society, which grants you the right to attend Council meetings, to vote during Council meetings and executive elections, and to run for a position on the executive committee.
Please note that only students who are members of the Students’ Society of McGill University (SSMU) or the Post-Graduate Students’ Society of McGill University (PGSS) (i.e. McGill students) are eligible for full membership. All others can join as associate members. Associate membership confers the same same benefits as full membership, with the exception of the right to vote and eligibility to run for the executive.

Help Out with One of Our Events
The executive is always glad to have help in running our events or to hear ideas for new ones. If you want to get more involved in the Society’s activities, your best bet is to attend a Council meeting. The purpose of Council meetings is, in part, to let the general Society membership know what the executive is up to, and to gather input from them as well. You can also access a schedule of upcoming Council meetings and email individual executive members.
Join the Executive
The Society holds elections for each position on the executive committee in the third week of March of each year. Any full member of the Society is eligible to run for a position.
The Chief Electoral Officer is responsible for accepting nominations for each position, and for setting the procedure by which nominations are made and accepted. The Officer is generally selected by the Council only in the weeks leading up to the election, so check here for more details closer to the actual election date. You can also contact the executive committee for more information here.
